German Onion Pie:

Ingredients:

Pastry of your choice to cover
A 10-inch (25 cm) pie plate
3 tbsp (50 mL) butter
3 cups (750 mL) onions peeled and thinly sliced
1/2 cup (125 mL) milk or half cream and half milk
1 1/2 cups (375 mL) sour cream
2 eggs well beaten
3 tbsp (50 mL) flour
1 tsp (5 mL) dill seeds or thyme
7 or 8 bacon slices

How to make German Onion Pie :

Line a microwave-safe pie plate with the rolled pastry of your choice.

Preheat the convection section of your microwave oven to 400°F (200°C).

Bake pastry 10 to 15 minutes or until golden brown.
Or cook it in the microwave at HIGH for 3 minutes.
It will not brown in the microwave, which is why I advise the convection method, if possible.

Place the butter in an 8-cup (2 L) microwave-safe dish.
Microwave at HIGH 3 minutes.
The butter will be brown here and there.
Add the sliced onions.
Stir well and microwave 8 to 9 minutes at HIGH, stirring once.
Pour onions into cooked pastry shell.
Stir together the remaining ingredients, except the bacon slices.
Pour over the onion mixture in the cooked pie shell.
Bake in the microwave oven at MEDIUM until firm in the centre, which should take about 12 to 15 minutes.

Place the bacon slices on a microwave-safe plate in a single layer.
Microwave at HIGH 5 to 6 minutes or until crisp.
Place over top of cooked pie and serve.
