It's pretty simple to guess what this game centers around...but the simplicity does not take away from the actual game. This is your average American military guy gets tangled up in some foreign country political/militaristic plot to "insert scenario here". But once again the plain simplicity of everything surrounding this game makes it so playable. From the ease of sniping baddies to hunting down targets at your discretion & not to mention the sweet slo-mo kill can reminiscent of Max Payne "bullet time". If you're looking for anything other than a basic, fun, run around and shoot people game...you should punch yourself in the face. Yes, there are things that could be improved and there are also things that were done well. So, here we go.
As far as the best part of this game, it's hard to call any part "best" or "worst" for that matter. But I will go out on a limb and say the actual gameplay was very fun and unique. A lot of games include snipers in the mix, along with an array of other classes or load outs. No one really makes them a focal point of the entire experience, which I like. The gunplay is simple aim and shoot, with very little weapons other than sniper rifles, pistols, & knife melee's. The few segments where you do wield an assault rifle are...terrible! I digress. The mechanics are pretty sound for such a horribly reviewed game and the campaign and multiplayer are about as good as it gets for a "singularly" themed game.
Speaking of campaign and MP, both are equally as fun and easy as the other. Campaign has you running and gunning at points, crawling and sneaking at others. Multiplayer is made for the camper in all of us, while it's usually frowned upon, in this game it's just about the only way to survive. Which takes away from the normal frantic grenade lobs and SMG's shot wildly around corners, and slows the pace down a bit. I enjoy a change in strategy and pace as far as online and campaign go, so it was more than welcomed. The pacing of action worked well for the campaign but the story seemed similar to just about every other military themed shooter out there.
A major ingredient that goes hand in hand with any sniper, real or fiction, is environment. The settings for this game were lush and brilliant similar to Uncharted. With tropical plants sprouting everywhere its a snipers paradise, but I found the actual environment to be more faux than meets the eye. For instance, when one moves through the grass the grass does not move, not does the tree branch with leaves, and so on. Lack of a powerful engine could be to blame, nothing a few minor tweaks could not improve on next time. The second factor in any snipers environment is sound. This game had very good sound, from distant waterfalls rushing over rocks and into its final reservoir to enemies who can't seem to get that square lit up(cigarette) to the perfectly synchronized crack of a M24 to an incoming fighter jets engine.
Honestly if you were looking for Call of Duty or Battfield, then sorely disappointed you will be. The key ingredient to make a game like-able is simplicity, which this title manages to do effortlessly. For all the negative points to be made about this game just as many positive points can be made as well. It may not be Black Ops or Gears of War, but it does provide entertainment which in the end is what video gaming is all about. So if you have whatever the going rate($10-$15) is for this game laying around, give it a shot straight to the dome! This bad boy earned 3 headshots and a knife to the spine for a whopping 3.5 outta 5 stars.
