Hey again Team Everbadge! Well, lets get straight to it shall we? I was a bit tore writing this review. I’ve never played the original Alice, but its obviously got a big cult following and I’ve heard plenty about it. When I walked into my local blockbuster to see what was new, I noticed the game right away, the box art jumped out at me and i immediately grabbed it and proceeded to the check-out counter, didn’t even give another gam a look. When I got home and popped it in I knew from the get-go that I was in for a visual treat.
Alice's character model is great. The way her hair and clothing flow and move with her is really quite a sight. Then from the dreary, dilapidated scenes from the real world to the purely bizarre realms in wonderland it was an interesting experience, and a hell of an argument for games as art! The story finds Alice battling her insanity and trying to recover her lost memories of her family's deaths all the while wonderland is being virtually ripped apart.
Sounds great doesn’t it? Well, unfortunately that’s pretty much where the fun stops. The levels are senselessly long and drawn out (for no apparent reason in fact) and the controls don’t respond well at times. I died far too many times jumping from mushroom pads and steam valves because the double jump didn’t compute for some odd reason, it was extremely frustrating and I found myself far too many times with may arm raised ready to chuck the controller across the room. It ruined the experience for me completely!
If you were a fan of the original I would suggest a rental, to me its not worth 60 bucks, if you’re not, then there’s more fun to be had in other platforms out there. But because the graphics were decent and the story was different and fresh, I give Alice madness returns a 3 out of 5 bags!
