As you leave the main corridor, one enters Corrigan ward where most cardiology patients reside. At the other end of the ward, is CCU. There is always a cardiology reg on call for serious situations. There is a fax in CCU. The ward is below St Brigid’s, above St Patrick’s and opposite St Finbar’s.
Note: ECG machine in the CCU should not be removed from the ward.
Finbar's Day ward:
Consultants: A variety of medical and surgical patients.

This ward deals with patients for day procedures. Typically as a surgical intern on theatre day the intern will be called early in the morning to admit patients and then again to discharge them later in the day. Some medical teams will have patients coming in to this ward as well. Patients have usually been pre assessed by the nursing staff. This ward is below Richmond, above Joseph’s ITU and opposite Corrigan’s.
St John’s Day ward:
Consultants: Dr Donegan and Dr Moore

This ward is located past the occupational health department and besides the psychiatry department. It is a form of outpatients used by the geriatricians to provide multidisciplinary care for elderly patients who come in to the hospital for the day. In addition to an OPD format being followed, the patients are also seen by the physiotherapists, OT, social work and are provided with meals & transport.
St Michael’s ward:
Consultants: Psychiatry
Ph Nos: 01 809 3288
This ward can only be accessed via a security door located beside the psychiatry department offices. It is a detoxification ward and is maintained by the psychiatry registrars. Rarely it will require the attention of the on-call team.
Miscellaneous:
The ground floor has numerous other areas of import including the pulmonary function testing area, the echocardiogram lab, the non-invasive vascular lab, the blood pressure unit, the stress test unit (all the above below Adams-McConnell and above the res), the cath lab and a conference room beside the cath lab, the various canteens, shops and outpatients. These areas will be discussed elsewhere in the guide (see index).
