Locavore is a cool iPhone app that can be searched based on location and/or produce type. It includes maps of farmer's markets and produce sellers and even seasonal or local recipes. Tap on "avocados" and you'll be taken to a map showing where they are currently available and you'll also learn how many months are left in the season.
