I’m Paul Swansen, editor and writer of The Swansen Report. Foxconn is coming to Wisconsin. The announcement made in the past weeks has been met with cheers and boos. Boos for the enormous tax breaks given to Foxconn, and cheers for the stimulus in construction and potential jobs for the new factory.

This new factory will produce flat panel displays for TV’s and other consumer electronic items. The potential factory will have eyes turned towards Wisconsin as a leader in cutting edge manufacturing. Wisconsin was one of seven states in the running for the new manufacturing plant.

Environmentalists here in Wisconsin are the loudest naysayers for this venture. " Kerry Schumann, executive director of the Wisconsin League of Conservation Voters, said in a prepared statement. "We all love Wisconsin." she continued. "We want Wisconsin’s economy to be as healthy as its drinking water, air, lakes, and rivers. It is interesting to note that they offered no positive response on what corrections they want to be made, or how to make this project go forward.

The proposed plant will be the largest economic development project in Wisconsin history. Foxconn plans to initially hire 3,000 workers, but the company said that could grow to 13,000 over six years. The total investment promised by the company is $10 billion. The Foxconn factory will be 20 million square feet — three times the size of the Pentagon — on a campus spread out over 1.56 square miles. I’m Paul Swansen of the Swansen Report and now back to the Willie Lawson Show here on the TECN network.
