Radiology: Ph: 01 809 3001
Radiology is on the same corridor as theatre. A good strategy is to take the map of radiology provided in the first week and insert it into the back of the guidebook to aid in navigation round the department.

Medical Admin
: Ph: 01 809 2189
Medical admin is located just before the doctor’s res on the ground floor.  Available here is the call schedule, facilities for changing the call schedule, checking what dates need to be included on the timesheet, and innumerable other administrative duties. Change of call forms, NCHD grant forms and annual leave forms are all available here. Time sheets are available on the wall outside the door. Medical admin will contact interns about intern tutorials, contract issues, call issues and will help interns whenever possible in whatever difficulties interns are having with rotas or job issues. Timesheets are handed in, completed and signed by the NCHD to this department by the date specified by a poster in admin and the res. Note that the date can vary somewhat from month to month.

Salaries:
Ph: 01 809 3916
This department is located on the ground floor on the corridor opposite the one with medical admin and the res, i.e. under the main corridor. It is open Thursdays for discussion of salary issues. It is a good practice in general to photocopy all completed timesheets and to monitor salary received.

St Raphael’s Portacabins: Ph: 01 809 3071
This area is located off the glass corridor leading to endoscopy and contains most of the secretaries for the various consultants in addition to the psychology department and a number of other areas. The management information office is located in this area and it is here that morbidity and mortality data for surgical consultants is available for putting together a morbidity and mortality meeting presentation. Ring ahead first for details.

Theatre:

Ph Nos: 01 809 2954 theatre reception, 01 809 2627 recovery area.
Theatre is located underneath the large staff canteen and can be accessed via a swipe system off the main corridor or from radiology.  Scrubs, appropriate footwear and a surgical cap are the minimum requirements for entry in the main theatre area. The theatre area consists of changing rooms, canteens, operating theatres, arrival areas and recovery areas. Useful facts to know about the area include: The locker with scrubs for call is just past the changing rooms. If it is locked then look on the top of the locker for the key, and failing that try the washing area just where the corridor with the locker meets the main theatre area. Make sure to return scrubs post-call, as theatre can’t be left short. An ABG machine is located in theatre. The central line forms are located on the wall on the left if proceeding down the main corridor, opposite theatre 5. Theatre reception is located on the left beside the photocopier machine. Forms for theatre lists are available here, and if the team requires their intern to organise the theatre lists for the next day (e.g. orthopaedics), ask a registrar how to find out the names, and include all their details on one of the theatre list forms and hand it in to reception before 14.30 the day before the team goes to theatre. There is a theatre IT system which is covered further in miscellaneous.

Laboratories:
Ph Nos:
01 809 2668 biochemistry
01 809 2705 blood bank
01 809 2703 haematology
01 809 2656 coagulation.
(When looking for laboratory numbers look at the list
on the chute terminal; the numbers of destinations usually correspond to
their phone number.)

The various laboratories in the hospital are located at the end of a long corridor with A&E at the opposite end. A swipe card is needed to get in. Accessing this area is usually necessary when the chute system is under maintenance and the intern needs to take the blood samples down personally. Occasionally an intern may go down to pick up blood or discuss a test depending on the situation. It is good practice to make sure that ABGs always go off in the chute system as these will give false results if they do not make it to the laboratory immediately.
